Sylvia Lee Lindsey was the fifth child born to the late Willie Sr and Ruby Lindsey in Memphis Tennessee on March 24, 1937. Sylvia departed this life August 14, 2023 in Middletown Delaware. Her daughter Tanya Watts preceded her in death along with Sylvia’s five siblings Tommy Lindsey, Dr. Willie E Lindsey Jr, Dorothy Jordan, Margret Robinson and Mildred Turner. Sylvia confessed her life to Christ at an early age at Saint John Baptist Church in Memphis Tennessee.
Sylvia attended Leath Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis Tennessee. After high school she then continued her education at Memphis University, majoring in Nursing. When Sylvia graduated, she began her career as a nurse at Baptist Hospital in Memphis Tennessee. Sylvia was united in marriage to Clarence Hoffman. Sylvia was the loving mother of four children.
Sylvia elevated her career by moving to Philadelphia where she began working for Philadelphia General Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Misericordia Hospital. Sylvia loved helping people As Sylvia’s career continued, she felt the need to work closer with patients at places like Planned Parenthood and nursing homes. She retired after 61 years.
Much like Sylvia’s love for service, she was a very active member within the church. Sylvia was a member of Holsey Temple CME Church, where she served in the choir and an usher for many years. Although Sylvia was a dedicated worker, she loved to travel. Sylvia was a cruise enthusiast. Throughout her life Sylvia took many trips throughout the world and also planned multiple family cruises.
Sylvia leaves to mourn her passing her only son Keith (Tina) Hoffman Sr. of Arlington Texas, and two daughters Toni (Sidney) Dantzler of Quakertown Pennsylvania and Terri (Harvey) Johnson of Middletown Delaware. Sylvia leaves behind 10 grandchildren Tiffanie Johnson, Tyana (Demetrius) Deveaux, Sharna Marshall, Tiara (Charles) McIntosh, Keith (Zanetta) Hoffman Jr., Jarrett Kates, Shauntae Shuford, Sylvia Hoffman, Taniel (Wali) Morris and Tia Watts. Sylvia leaves behind 11 great grandchildren Keith Hoffman III, Charles McIntosh III, Z’Niyah, Demi, Demetrius Jr., Logan, Zoe, Kendrick, Deja, Kobe and Grace. Sylvia leaves behind 4 sisters, Roberta (Jobie) Smith of Knoxville Tennessee, JoAnn (David) Jones of Nashville Tennessee, Ruby Jean Johnson and Agnes Williams of Memphis Tennessee and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
