Christine Daniels beloved Aunt, Caregiver and Friend
Passed away at the age of 92.
She lived a wonderful long life and is survived by her in-laws, Joe and Flo Walston, and family Karen Bisassi, Darvin Walston, Theresa White-Walston and Connie Toliver.
Though born in Virginia, she grew up in New York City with summers in Cape Cod and visiting family in Virginia. She met her first husband Rufus Walston (D), and his family kept her close. She enjoyed many family reunions together at the family farm in North Carolina.
Later in life she married again, Robert Daniels (D), together they had a commercial cleaning business.
Christine was surrounded by warm and caring neighbors in her Strawberry Mansion home. As the block treasurer she helped put flower planters in front of each house. The street enjoyed yearly bar-b-ques, and the children knew Ms. Chris had funny books and candy for them, they were her “Babies”. Even until recently, they would stop to visit her and bring flowers. Caring neighbors would send home cooked meals, pick up her nutrition drinks, or help in general with shopping as she grew older.
One of her deepest commitments was to the United Methodist Women’s group at her church. She actively worked to supply gifts for shut-ins and the sick. She loved the retreats and Woman’s Day events. She made some of her closest friendships through church activities. She was so honored to be the church collection treasurer. She always found ways to help raise money by holding flea market sales in her neighborhood.
As a young woman she did some factory work in NYC. After moving to Philadelphia, she did domestic work for a short time. Then she began working in a clothing store, eventually promoting up to Assistant Manager. When that store closed, she did clerical work at an office until she retired. Occasionally working three jobs at a time, she was able to buy her home, cars and beautiful clothes. She never left home without being fashionably attired. Always wearing a hat, that she tilted to the side with a little sassiness, everyone knew that was Ms. Chris.
She leaves behind many friends with fond memories of sharing and caring.
Donations can be made in her memory to the United Methodist Women in care of The Mother African Zoar United Methodist Church; 3259 North Broad Street; Philadelphia, PA 19140.
