Charles Pitts Jr. Obituary

Charles LaVern Pitts Jr. also known as Chuck, was born at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA on February, 1st, 1968 to Lena Vorters-Pitts and Charles Pitts, Sr.

Charles attended elementary through high school within the Philadelphia Public School system and graduated from University City High School. He went on to further his education attending The American Institute of Drafting, a two-year college for Electrical Engineering.

On the day of his graduation, Charles was interviewed and hired on the spot at The Sigel Group, which was located in Narberth, PA. After a few years, the company closed and moved out of town. Chuck then worked as a parking attendant in Center City Philadelphia. Charles wanted to do something different in the work field so he decided to take the test for the Dover Corrections Officer position. After passing the test and successfully completing the hiring process, he was hired and worked at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, Delaware.

Charles united with Danita Phillips. Out of this union two daughters, Nyssa and Micaela Pitts, were born. He was a stepdad to Aarika and Timothy Phillips.

After the marriage ended, Charles decided to move from Philadelphia to Wilmington, Delaware to be closer to his job that he held for over 11 years and was proud of it.

A few years later, Chuck then met and married Heizel Cortez Pitts.

Charles loved his family. Working such long hours, he didn’t always feel like taking the drive back to Philadelphia to see us , but he always felt up to seeing and spending time with his daughters.

His friend and co-worker, Robert Ferguson, who was always by his side, asked Charles to attend his church, The Filipino American Christian Fellowship Church, in Dover, Delaware. After attending and becoming a member, it was his desire was to get baptized. Charles was baptized on February 9th, 2020.

Charles’s health began to decline which kept him away from doing a lot of things eventually causing him to become disabled. Spending numerous days and months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, Chuck kept pushing on until God called him to take his rest in his new eternal home on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

Charles leaves to cherish their memories, his mother, Lena; father, Charles Sr. (Michele); his daughters, Nyssa and Micaela; step-children, Aarila and Timothy; his sisters, Sandra and Tara; eight grandchildren, Ny’Kir Pitts, Akiraa, Amari , Amani, Autumn, Aniyah, Heaven, and Gabrielle Phillips; three nieces, Turquoise Pitts, Jordai and Jordan Kimbrough; great niece, Amari; great nephew, Ameer; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, and former colleagues of Delaware State Correctional facility.
